Jonathan Turley said it would be an "assault on free speech rights" if Tom Homan pushed for the Democrat to be prosecuted.
Fox News legal analyst Jonathan Turley criticized Tom Homan, President Donald Trump’s border czar, for suggesting that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) could face prosecution for teaching undocumented people their legal rights.
“Such a prosecution would be an assault on free speech rights,” Turley posted on X. “While AOC has never been a defender of free speech, principle demands something more from the rest of us who value the First Amendment.”
“Just as VP Vance offered a powerful defense of free speech in Europe, this baseless threat undermines the high ground achieved in Munich,” he added. (In a stunning speech in Germany on Friday, Vice President JD Vance chastised European allies, accusing their governments of suppressing free speech.)
Homan and Ocasio-Cortez have traded barbs in recent days after the New York Democrat hosted a “Know Your Rights” webinar to teach immigrants how they can protect themselves if they are targeted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids.
Homan, a leader of Trump’s mass deportation plans, suggested on Thursday that Ocasio-Cortez could get “in trouble” for doing so.
