Florida residents hit with SpaceX rocket's double sonic booms
Fox News
Officials warned Florida residents that the launch of the SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket would be followed by a double sonic boom. The rocket is the most powerful currently flying.
A sonic boom occurs when an aircraft or aerospace vehicle flies through the air faster than the speed of sound, resulting in a thunderous boom. Julia Musto is a reporter for Fox News and Fox Business Digital.
NASA explained that the air reacts like a fluid to supersonic objects, with the vehicles pushing molecules aside with great force and forming a shock wave.
