Essex County school buses cancelled again — with cold weather warning issued
CBC
The most recent blast of weekend winter weather is still causing headaches on the roads in Windsor-Essex.
School buses in Essex County are cancelled for the second straight day on Tuesday.
In a notification issued around 5:30 a.m., the transportation service provider also said school buses in the city of Windsor would operate as normal.
For consistency, exams at all Windsor-Essex schools have been put back for another day to allow all students to write them at the same time.
School buses are also back on the roads across Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton.
Environment Canada has issued a yellow alert because of extreme cold weather across the Windsor, Chatham and Sarnia region.
A period of very cold wind chills is expected with values of -25 C to -30 C and a brisk wind of up to 50 km/h during the morning and evening on Tuesday.
"Extreme cold puts everyone at risk," the weather agency said in its advisory.
"Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter."
Environment Canada says to watch for cold related symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
They say you must cover up as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
