Richard Gleeson made a tremendous debut against India, picking up three wickets for just 15 runs in his four overs. He dismissed the big fishes in the batting line-up and bowled a maiden over in the 2nd T20I game.
England’s World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan has put his weight behind debutant Richard Gleeson after his incredible debut against India on Saturday, 9 July.
The former captain, while speaking to Sky Sports said that the rise of the fast bowler comes at the right time when England are facing issues with many of their fast bowlers facing long term injury concerns.
England have been looking to bolster their bowling attack after the likes of Jofra Archer and Chris Woakes were sidelined for a long period of time ahead of the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in Australia.
“Gleeson's debut was remarkable. England can add another name to that not-so-long list of bowlers that can contribute at international level,” he said.
"He comes in with a reputation of being great at the end of innings for his county in various forms but he came in here, hit a length hard and fast, and dismissed Kohli, Pant and Sharma,” Morgan further added.
"It was extraordinary. This is a huge find for English cricket and one they can build towards the next World Cup and possibly the next 50-over World Cup [in India] next year,” he talked about the prospect of Gleeson getting a long run into the World Cup season.
Earlier in the day, a gleeful Gleeson said that he could not have dreamt of his debut for the Three Lions."(England selection) wasn't anywhere near my radar. It was just to play the highest standard that I could,” he said.
