England vs India: Rishabh Pant becomes 4th Indian wicketkeeper to score ODI century

ENG vs IND, 3rd ODI: Rishabh Pant scored a century off 106 balls and helped India win the match by 5 wickets at Old Trafford in Manchester.

Rishabh Pant, on Sunday, July 17, became the fourth Indian wicketkeeper to score a century in ODIs. The southpaw raced away to a 106-ball hundred against England in the third and final ODI against England at Old Trafford in Manchester.

Prior to the game, Pant had played 26 matches in which he scored five half-centuries with a top score of 85 to his name. But against the Three Lions, Pant came out all guns blazing and made sure that he didn’t get out before reaching the three-figure mark.

Pant came to bat after Reece Topley removed both Indian openers with the score at 31 for two while chasing 260. From there on, he stitched together a partnership of 133 runs along with Hardik Pandya.

He got to his 90 with a colossal six off Moeen Ali and showed that he was never going to slow down. Pant almost got out when he was on 97 after he tried to play a big shot. But the rub of the green went his way as the ball evaded the fielder inside the circle.

Thereafter, Pant played a pull and got to his hundred. He joined MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid and KL Rahul as the Indian keepers with ODI centuries to their names. Dhoni, who retired back in 2019, is on top of the list with nine hundreds.

While Dravid has four centuries to his name, KL Rahul also managed to rack up one in the 50-over format as a designated wicketkeeper.
