ENG vs IND: Virat Kohli's dismal run continues, India star prized out by Ben Stokes in 2nd innings

India tour of England: Virat Kohli was dismissed to an unplayable Ben Stokes delivery in the second innings of the Edgbaston Test. He fell after scoring 20 runs on Day 3 of the Test.

Virat Kohli's dismal run in international cricket continued as the Indian star fell after making just 20 runs in the second innings of the rescheduled 5th Test against England in Birmingham. Kohli got out to an unplayable delivery from England captain Ben Stokes in the final session of Day 3 in front of a packed house at Edgbaston.

Stokes, the English skipper, broke the stand that was going along so smoothly. This was on the length and around off, it took off after landing and moved away. Kohli pushed at it ahead of his body, the ball flew off the shoulder of the bat towards Billings. He did not pouch it but Joe Root at first slip was alert and he took a good one-handed reflex catch on the rebound.

England vs India, 5th Test Day 3 Live Updates

Kohli was expected to get back to form as he had been in good touch in the 4-day practice match against Leicestershire last week, but he managed to muster only 31 runs in the two innings of the ongoing Edgbaston Test.

Kohli was 40 runs away from becoming only the third Indian batter to complete 2000 Test runs against England before the rescheduled Test. Kohli has scored five Test hundreds against England, three of which came in the 2018 series alone and nine fifties. In fact, Kohli’s highest Test score of 235 was also scored against England when they visited India for a series in late 2016.

India, meanwhile, earned a 132-run first-innings lead against England, despite Jonny Bairstow’s third straight century, and extended its lead to 169 at tea in the series-deciding fifth Test on Sunday. Siraj used the old softball to perfection to take 4/66 as England were bowled out for 284 midway into the second session on Day 3, with Bairstow scoring a brilliant 106 off 140 balls.
