Emergency water ban issued for Bonavista due to ice
CBC
The Town of Bonavista issued an emergency water ban for the community Saturday, due to an ice formation blocking the Long Pond water intake.
Town staff are working to rid the ice that has formed on the bottom of the pond. The ice has attached to underwater structures, blocking the flow of water into the system.
In a social media post on Saturday afternoon, the town said a temporary pump was installed to actively pump water and stabilize the region's water supply.
If the current water tank depleted, the town would have been without water, the town said.
The temporary pump will provide some relief following the towns request for residents to immediately stop all non-essential water use. But water conservation efforts should be considered until the anchor ice issue is resolved.
Residents can expect some discolouration in the water due to the temporary pump, the town said.
The emergency water ban remains in effect until further notice.
