Eloor municipality transforms former waste dumping yard into artificial turf for public use, inaugurated by Minister Rajeeve.
Eloor municipality has set up its own artificial turf at Kuzhikandam.
The facility has come up on a spot that was used as a waste dumping yard until 2015. There were several agitations and cases lodged against those who had opposed the illegal dumping, said A.D. Sujil, municipal chairperson.
The council that came to power in 2015 had decided to shut down the yard and measures were initiated to ensure proper waste management, he added.
The land was included in the Ambedkar Grama Panchayat project after 2021 and the council decided to set up an artificial turf. A children’s park was also included in the project.
The municipal authorities said the turf, which was set up at a cost of ₹60 lakh, would be open to players from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Minister for Industries P. Rajeeve is scheduled to inaugurate the facility on Monday (May 12, 2025).
