An electrical fire at two connected residential buildings is now under control in Thorncliffe Park, according to Toronto Fire Services.
The fire is affecting electrical power at 11 Thorncliffe Park Dr. and 21 Overlea Blvd., according to Alex Vashkevich, a public information officer at Toronto Fire Services. Police said they were called to the buildings shortly after 2 p.m.
An electrical panel was smouldering and the fire spread into the walls of the basement level where electrical panels are housed for both buildings.
Vashkevich said there were no flames and no smoke above ground.
In an email on Wednesday, Toronto Hydro said it is at the scene of the fire, which it said was in an underground vault.
The utility said it has disconnected power to damaged equipment, a move that is affecting fewer than 20 customers. It said it doesn't have an estimated time for power to be restored.
"Once Toronto Fire has fully contained the fire, Toronto Hydro will assess the impacted equipment and determine next steps for repair," the utility said.
Toronto police said TTC shelter buses are at the scene for residents of the two buildings but there have been no evacuations.
According to the TTC, buses are not stopping between Overlea Boulevard at Thorncliffe Park Drive (West) and Thorncliffe Park Drive (East) due to the fire.
Roads in the area are closed as firefighters continue working.
