The Enforcement Directorate has attached assets worth Rs 2.37 crore in Goa under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in a fraud case lodged against banker Ameet Savant and others, officials said.
The attached assets, which belong to Jeevendra Poddar and Shipra Singh, are in the form of a flat in Goa, office space and BMW cars among other things.
The ED had initiated the money laundering investigation on the basis of FIRs lodged in 2019 by the Goa Police under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Goa Protection of Interest of Depositors (In Financial Establishments) Act, 1999. The FIRs were lodged against Ameet Savant, Jeevendra Poddar, Shipra Singh and others for duping investors to the tune of Rs 21.38 crore by promising fixed returns of 2 to 5 per cent per month.

“Investigation has revealed that Ameet Savant, as authorised representative of Ventura Securities Ltd, had collected money to the tune of Rs 21.38 crore from the complainants between 2015 and 2019 and instead of depositing the same in the demat accounts of investors maintained with Ventura Securities Ltd, he had misappropriated the same in the accounts of his own similar named proprietorship firm VENTURA,” the ED said in a statement.
Ameet Savant allegedly laundered the money received from the complainants (investors) for gambling and speculating in securities market and lost money to the tune of Rs 9.86 crore between 2016 and 2018.
Ameet Savant also allegedly transferred proceeds of crime to the tune of Rs 5.45 crore into the bank accounts of Jeevendra Poddar and Shipra Singh as commission (brokerage) for sourcing clients for him.
