ED attaches assets worth Rs 6 crore linked to NSCN-IM functionaries

Key functionaries of the NSCN-IM were allegedly engaged in diverting the government's funds and extorting illegal taxes. The district representatives were submitting the extorted money to the treasurer of the 'collective leadership'.
The Enforcement Directorate has provisionally attached movable properties worth Rs. 6.88 linked to Rayilung Nsarangbe, a self-styled colonel and treasurer of the NSCN-IM (National Socialist Counsel of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah), his wife Ruth Chawang and Apam Muivah, secretary to the outfit’s Ato Kilonser. The ED initiated an investigation against the alleged key functionaries of the NSCN-IM on the basis of an FIR (First information report) filed on July 9, 2020 and a charge-sheet prepared on the following December 29 by the National Investigation Agency.It was alleged that the gang was carrying out an extortion racket in Manipur and Nagaland, diverting government funds. In the course of their conspiracy, they had been criminally intimidating construction companies, undertaking a road construction project in Manipur and collecting huge sums as illegal "tax”.
