Two men from British Columbia are facing multiple drug and firearms charges in the N.W.T., after Hay River RCMP arrested them last week.
Police said in a news release that they responded Thursday to a call that someone had been seriously injured and was being held hostage at a home in Hay River.
The RCMP arrested three people at the home, and a victim was taken to the hospital.
Hindowa Sama, 21, faces charges of aggravated assault, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, forcible confinement, failing to comply with a release order, and possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Evan Rochon, 19, has been charged with aggravated assault, unauthorized possession of a firearm, failing to comply with a release order, forcible confinement, unsafe storage of a firearm, possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possessing a firearm in a vehicle, dangerous driving and fleeing from police.
Trisha Tambour, 40, of Hay River also faces a drug trafficking charge.
During a search of the home, RCMP seized about 700 grams of what they believe is crack cocaine, as well as a firearm, a replica firearm and more than $17,000.
RCMP say they believe one of the people who was arrested was also behind a high-speed flight from police last Wednesday, after RCMP tried stopping a vehicle for a traffic offence. Police did not give chase, and the vehicle was later found crashed into a sign post. The RCMP say they recovered a firearm from the vehicle.
While his party has made a cause célèbre out of its battle with the Speaker, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has periodically waxed poetic about the House of Commons — suggesting that its green upholstery is meant to symbolize the fields of the English countryside where commoners met centuries ago before the signing of the Magna Carta.
