Don Mattingly leaving Blue Jays after World Series heartbreak — with two managing jobs open
NY Post
Don Mattingly has decided to step away from his Blue Jays bench coach job, but not with the intention of retiring from baseball.
Mattingly had been with the Blue Jays for three seasons and was enlisted to help mentor John Schneider, who had been elevated to Toronto manager — as a first-time manager — during the 2022 season.
Mattingly’s contract was up, and he felt it was mission accomplished with the Blue Jays having won the AL East and reached World Series Game 7, a source said. Mattingly feels grateful to the Toronto hierarchy for giving him a role with responsibility, and he had a kinship with Schneider, who grew up in Lawrence, N.J., as a Yankee fan who idolized Mattingly.
After The Post broke the news of Mattingly’s decision to leave the Blue Jays, the beloved former Yankees star revealed that he was “close to that decision before the season even started.”

‘Freak of nature: Zion Williamson’s resurgence could pose a Knicks problem versus motivated Pelicans
Zion Williamson is slimmer and healthier for his trip to MSG.

Almost a year to the day after a goaltender interference call against Kyle Palmieri lost the Islanders a game against the Blue Jackets that started their season’s death spiral, they were on the wrong end of another controversial call against those same Blue Jackets that might have had the same effect.

SAN DIEGO — As you may have seen elsewhere in this newspaper (and also if you haven’t deleted me yet from your social media), I have a book coming out Tuesday called “The Bosses of The Bronx.” Much of it details the 37 years’ worth of antics, winning, losing, winning again and overall mania of George Steinbrenner’s time with the Yankees.
