The rapper mocked the new ad, which has sparked debate on social media.
Doja Cat is seemingly trolling Sydney Sweeney over her controversial American Eagle ad, for which the actress faced backlash online.
In a now-viral TikTok video, the rapper delivers the “Euphoria” star’s lines from the ad but uses an exaggerated backwoods accent.
“Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color… my jeans are blue,” Doja says in the clip, mocking Sweeney’s exact words from the ad.
In Sweeney’s promo video for the ad campaign, the same one mocked by Doja, Sweeney, who has blue eyes and blonde hair, is seen lying back on a couch while fastening her pants. After she delivers her lines, a male narrator concludes, “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”
The ad’s play on words faced scrutiny after some pointed out that it has white supremacist undertones and could be interpreted as a nod to eugenics, the racist and inaccurate theory that human genetics can be improved through selective and controlled breeding of populations.
