Tribune News NetworkDohaThe 31st Doha International Book Fair 2022, held under the slogan ‘Knowledge is Light’, concluded on a high note at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) concluded on Saturday. The book fair, organised under strict COVID-19 preventive measures, lasted for 10 days, with the participation of 37 countries. The book fair featured 845 pavilions, 437 publishing houses, including 319 Arab and 45 foreign publishing houses, and 73 publishing houses of children’s books. Several cultural activities and workshops were organized during the fair.Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums, expressed her happiness at visiting the book fair. She congratulated Minister of Culture HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani on the success of the exhibition. “I had the pleasure of visiting the Doha International Book Fair to see the wide range of publishing houses, and to meet Qatari and resident writers. I congratulate HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani and his team on the success of the exhibition,” Sheikha Mayassa said in a tweet.The Minister of Culture said in a tweet, “The activities of the thirty-first edition of Doha International Book Fair concluded , and with this conclusion we reinforce the localization of the books for its great importance, and to open up new horizons for knowledge and creativity.”He said Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa visited at the Doha International Book Fair. She has always had, and still has, a keen interest in art and culture and in supporting the cultural movement and cultural diversity, he added.The book fair was organized by the Ministry of Culture and the ministry was keen to organize an impressive version of the book fair, and this version was distinguished at all levels, whether in terms of the accompanying cultural events or by designing the exhibition’s various pavilions. The US pavilion was the guest of honour at book fair 2022, on the occasion of the Qatar-USA Year of Culture 2021.
