DMK decided to raise property tax by such high percentage, says TN BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan

While protesting against the DMK-led government’s move to increase property taxes, BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan said that it was the DMK’s decision to raise taxes by such a high percentage and that neither the planning commission nor the Centre had asked for this.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Chennai, while protesting the rise in property taxes, said that it was the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government’s decision to increase the property tax by such a high percentage.

BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan said, “Only for the sake of convenience, they are putting the blame on the finance commission or the planning commission.”

Participating in the protest against the hike in property tax across Tamil Nadu, the BJP MLA said, “The honourable house, along with the CM, had said that without an alternative, they are taking the decision to increase the property tax.”

The BJP's Vanathi Srinivasan, who is the national president of the BJP Mahila Morcha, also pointed out that when the AIADMK government took a decision to increase the property tax during the last regime, MK Stalin had staged a demonstration and questioned if the proposal was for property tax, or for the value of the property itself.

She further slammed the DMK government saying, “Now, on one hand, they are saying that they have created a new model in India. On the other hand, they have accepted their failure of not finding adequate resources for running the government. This is the present pathetic situation for Tamil Nadu.”

“The central government is giving various guidelines, while the state government is objecting to several of the guidelines given by the centre. Why are they following this? Only for the sake of convenience are they putting the blame on the finance commission or the planning commission,” said BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan.
