BJP leader Dilip Ghosh courted controversy for his remarks against TMC workers, saying bamboo sticks would be used if attacked during the upcoming municipal elections in West Bengal.

The Bharatiya Janata Party's national vice president Dilip Ghosh courted controversy for his remarks advising party workers to use bamboo sticks as a self-defence measure during the upcoming municipal elections in the state.

During a campaign in West Midnapore, Ghosh claimed that the TMC was trying to intimidate the BJP by tearing up party posters and banners. He also charged the Mamata Banerjee-led party workers of attacking them with bombs.

He said, "BJP got the lead in the Lok Sabha assembly here. TMC knows this. That is why an attempt is being made to stop the BJP by intimidating it by tearing posters and banners of the BJP."

Then he made the controversial remark that their party members have raw bamboo which will be used.

"But our people are also very strong here... Bamboo has been cut. Our people have cut raw bamboo. We will use it if need be. Central Force is needed. The common man gets scared," he said.

Further, the BJP leader alleged that bombs may be used as a scare tactic. "Bombs will be thrown. In such a situation, if there is a central force, people will feel safe and will come out and vote."
