Devon Conway feels controlled aggression main reason behind New Zealand’s change of fortune against England

New Zealand batted brilliantly on the first day of the 2nd Test match against England after terrible collapses in the first Test match.

New Zealand started off on a strong note in the second Test match against England after the batting unit put together 318 runs for the loss of four wickets. All of NZ’s batsmen found start against Ben Stokes’s England who chose to bowl and scored at a healthy rate on day 1 at Trent Bridge.

Their fortunes at Trent Bridge were starkly different from the first Test match where they collapsed against a pace attack led by the returning James Anderson.

Speaking after the end of the day’s play, batter Devon Conway spoke about how New Zealand changed their fortunes in the second Test match.

"One of the things we spoke about in our batting meetings between tests was to try and be a bit more aggressive have that positive mindset and intent to score," Conway said.

NZ had been quite defensive in the first Test match due to the seaming conditions at Lord's, but the came out with an attacking template yesterday, something that was similar to Brendon McCullum's philosophy during his tenure with the team.

"We were probably lacking that a bit in the first test. We tried to control that as best as possible and are reaping the rewards after day one," he further added.

An aggressive England pace attack looked for wickets and kept pushing full length balls throughout the day. This led to the visitors feasting at Trent Bridge, scoring at a rate of 3.5 and above per over.
