In the latest order issued by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Thursday, no relaxation regarding opening of the gyms was mentioned.

In the latest order issued by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Thursday, no relaxation regarding the opening of the gyms was mentioned.

Delhi Gym Association was not happy with the latest guidelines issued by DDMA.

In its order, DDMA decided to let the gyms remain closed, whereas all the other activities which were closed in the yellow zone, including theatres and banquets, were allowed to reopen. Furthermore, DDMA also announced the lifting of the odd-even protocol of opening shops and weekend curfew from January 29.

“We criticize the decision taken by DDMA which affects the livelihood of around 1 lakh people. This decision by the government shows that health is never the priority as everything else in Delhi is open and only the gyms have been asked to remain closed. We strongly condemn this decision which will make Delhi unfit and prone to diseases. We have no option left but to protest against this decision which makes it impossible for the gym industry to earn its livelihood,” Delhi Gym Association noted.

Chirag Sethi, Vice President, Delhi Gym Association said that the government’s decision to only close the gyms but all other activities are open is like a death warrant for gym owners.

“If DDMA does not want people to be healthy, please let us know and we will also open liquor shops. This is really unfair to the fitness industry. We are exploring legal options to challenge this decision in court. Also, we will be hosting a major protest against this decision. Now we have no option left but to go on the road and protest to make our voices heard,” Sethi added.
