Delhi: Dreaded gangster of Lawrence Bishnoi-Kala Jathedi syndicate arrested

A notorious criminal, Kala Rana, an accused in at least four dozen criminal cases, was arrested by the police on Tuesday. Rana, a key member of the Bishnoi-Kala Jathedi syndicate, was running criminal activities from Thailand.
Police arrested one of north India's most wanted and notorious gangsters, Virender Partap alias Kala Rana, an accused wanted in at least four criminal cases, on Tuesday. The accused was extradited to India and arrested on his arrival in India on Tuesday at the Delhi Airport.
A key member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, from Yamunanagar in Haryana escaped to Thailand in 2019 using a fake passport. Police said that his accomplices Sandeep aka Kala Jathedi and other criminals were running extortion rackets and contract killings.
According to police, the accused also works for gangster Sandeep Kala alias Kala Jathedi, who was arrested last year from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. After his arrest, police intensified their efforts to nab Rana and he was caught after a longchase and analysis of technical surveillance.
While in jail, the accused became close friends with Sampat Nehra, an associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. In 2017, he along with Nehra and others opened fire on a person named Rajender alias Raja, the brother of ex-MLA Dilbag Singh.
"For the Lawrence Bishnoi-Kala Jathedi alliance, Rana was in charge of communication, finance and investment hub. He is also the person who, along with another fugitive, Goldy Brar, suspected to be operating from Canada, was managing the extortion network. Over a hundred sharpshooters were at the beck and call of this gang. Their sharpshooters go to any extent to eliminate the targets," police said.
Police said that the Haryana government had declared a reward of Rs 1 lakh for Rana in a 2018 murder case. In 2018, Rana and his associates had shot a jewellery shop employee dead in Ambala.
Police officials were desperately looking for Rana between 2017 and 2020. They received the first substantial information about Rana when Raj Kumar alias Raju Basodi, another member of the Bishnoi-Jathedi gang, was deported from Bangkok in February 2020. Basodi had told the police that Rana was hiding in Bangkok.
