Lars-Christian Brask also urged Congress to act as Trump steps up his efforts to seize Greenland.
A key Danish political leader is urging U.S. lawmakers to intervene as President Donald Trump steps up his threats to seize control over Greenland.
“If I could come with some advice, it would be for the Senate and the House to start to take control of the political power in America, because with this mad and erratic behavior, you have to ask the question: Is the president capable of running the United States?” Lars-Christian Brask, deputy speaker of the Danish parliament, told Sky News.
Greenland is a semi-autonomous Danish territory, but Trump has grown increasingly belligerent in his push to seize the island, saying “one way or the other, we’re going to have Greenland” and refusing to rule out the use of military force.
Brask also called out Trump for making “threats against a friend,” pointing out that Denmark has been an ally for more than two centuries and that its soldiers have fought and died in the U.S.-led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“What more do we need to do to maintain and retain the friendship?” he asked.
