Daily Covid-19 case count crosses 1 lakh for first time since pandemic began

India saw a single-day spike of more than 1 lakh Covid-19 cases on Sunday, the highest since the pandemic began. With Sunday's tally, the active caseload crossed the 7-lakh mark.

India recorded more than one lakh Covid-19 cases in a span of 24 hours on Sunday, the highest single-day rise in infections since the pandemic began last year. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is yet to announce the cumulative Covid-19 tally in the country for Sunday. The previous high was achieved on September 16 last year, when 97,894 positive cases were reported. With Sunday's tally, nearly 1.25 crore people in India have been infected with Covid-19, with the active caseload crossing the 7-lakh mark. The doubling time of Covid-19 cases is down to 115.4 days, the Union Health Ministry said on Sunday. About 490 deaths were also reported Sunday, with Maharashtra accounting for 222.
