Cyclone Asani: Parts of North Andhra Pradesh likely to receive heavy rains for next 2 days

Cyclone Asani, which intensified into a severe cyclonic storm on Sunday, is likely to move toward North Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday, May 10. The IMD has predicted that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur over parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh for the next two days.

Cyclone Asani is likely to move towards the North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coast on Tuesday, May 10. This means that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur over East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts in Andhra Pradesh with squally winds and speeds gusting to 60 kmph over northern coastal Andhra Pradesh.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), on Sunday, said that Cyclone Asani intensified into a severe cyclonic storm. It is very likely to recurve and move towards the Northwest Bay of Bengal, off the Odisha coast, and weaken gradually into a cyclonic storm during the next 48 hours.

Light to moderate rainfall is likely in a few places with heavy rainfall in isolated places over northern coastal Andhra Pradesh from Tuesday evening, May 10.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into the west central Bay of Bengal on May 9 and 10 and into the Northwest Bay of Bengal from May 10 to 12. Fishermen who are out at sea have been advised to return to the coast.
