Fire crews responded to a fire at Wheat City Metals just north of Regina on Thursday afternoon.
Black smoke poured out of the site, located at 2881 Pasqua St. N.
Fire crews say the call came in at 12:46 p.m. CST.
Regina Fire and Protective Services confirmed in a media release later Thursday that that the fire had been contained and was "in full control."
The release said there was no threat to the surrounding area and the air quality was being monitored due to the smoke.
The scrap yard is located close to the Evraz steel plant.
Police blocked off traffic to a section of Pasqua Street N. between Armour and Sherwood roads.
Fire crews were receiving water from a pumper truck located about 150 metres away.
Heavy machinery was seen moving sections of scrap metal away from the area.
Firefighters appeared to be using a single crane to shoot water onto the burning pile of metal.
A fire spokesperson said there were no injuries and that crews could be at the scene for a while.
