Gandharvakottai CPI(M) MLA and Lok Sabha MP visit Vadakadu village after clash, urge residents to remain calm.
Gandharvakottai CPI(M) MLA M. Chinnadurai and Lok Sabha MP Karti Chidambaram on Thursday visited Vadakadu village in the district and interacted with the residents in the wake of a recent clash that broke out between members of the Scheduled Caste and Most Backward Class communities.
Mr. Chinnadurai said he urged them to remain calm and not get carried away by rumours. Six houses, a couple of cars and some two-wheelers belonging to the SC community members were damaged. One of the houses was set on fire.
Elders in the village of both communities wanted to live in a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere. The main issue relating to a temple and a sports ground at Vadakadu was pending in the court. Also, villagers were in favour of removal of a TASMAC liquor shop, he added.
