With the Covid cases witnessing a drop in Tamil Nadu, the state government eased the coronavirus restrictions and lifted the night curfews. Check what's allowed in Chennai and what's not.
The MK Stalin-led DMK government has lifted the night curfew in Chennai and other parts of the state from January 28 as Covid cases have started to decline. The state government has also withdrawn the complete lockdown on Sundays, permitting schools and colleges to reopen February 1 for classes 1 to 12 in the state capital and other cities. However, nursery and kindergarten schools are not allowed to open in the state.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin reviewed the pandemic situation with health officials and senior bureaucrats on Thursday and lifted the night curfew from January 28. However, the ban on cultural festivals and political meetings will continue as the state continues to log around 30,000 Covid cases on a daily basis, the Times Now revealed in its report.
-Restaurants, cinema theatres, clubs, amusement parks in Chennai are allowed to function with 50 per cent occupancy, PTI said in a report.
-The state government has also permitted bakeries, lodges, gyms, garment and jewellery shops, spas and salons to operate with 50 per cent capacity.
-The new order of the Tamil Nadu government allows only 100 people to attend marriage and wedding functions.
-Funerals in Chennai and cities will be allowed with 50 people, the order said.
-Schools have been allowed to reopen on February 1 for classes 1 to 12. The government had ordered the closure of schools while permitting classes for higher secondary students till Pongal. Later on, following a spike in Covid-19 cases, all the higher secondary schools were asked to remain shut till the end of the month.
