Commonwealth Games 2022 | Harmanpreet Kaur comments on CWG debut: Glad we are also getting an opportunity

Indian Women's team captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressed her happiness in being part of the Commonwealth Games this year.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur opened up on the Indian women's cricket team's Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham, saying that she is happy about getting the opportunity to take part in a major event.
Women's cricket will be making its first appearance at the games and India has been clubbed alongside Australia, Pakistan and Barbados in Group A.
Talking to PTI before departing for the event, Kaur said that the tournament will be important for the team as they will be playing for a medal this time. The India captain went on to say that she grew up watching such events and the team is glad that they're getting an opportunity to compete at the Commonwealth Games.
“This tournament is very important for us. This time we are playing for a medal. If I speak about myself, we have grown watching these kind of tournaments and we are glad that we are also getting an opportunity, we will be part of a big event. I think in the future, if we keep getting these (kind of) opportunities, it will be great for us,” said Kaur.
The 33-year-old also said that it would be a different experience and said that they will be cheering for others and will be celebrating each and every medal that the country achieves at the event.
“When you were speaking, I actually felt that I am walking on that (CWG) road, because that is what we are talking about and this time we are going to be part of multi-sporting event. Now it is not only about cricket but other teams also and we will be there for them to cheer up and we want to celebrate each and every medal. This time it will be totally different and we are all very excited,”said Kaur.
India will open their campaign against Australia on July 29th. The skipper also commented on facing off against the Aussies and said that they have always given India tough competition. She said that every game would be crucial and the team would look to give their all on the field.
