Committee formed to investigate fatal blast at Ordnance Factory in Bhandara, Maharashtra; inquiry led by Deputy Commissioner of Labour.
A committee has been constituted to investigate the blast at the Ordnance Factory in Bhandara district, Maharashtra, which killed eight workers and injured five others on Friday (January 24, 2025). The Deputy Commissioner of Labour (Central), Nagpur, will lead the inquiry, with the probe set to begin on January 27, officials said on Saturday (January 25, 2025).
The explosion occurred around 10:40 a.m. in the LTPE (Low Temperature Plastic Explosives) building No. 23, located in the HEX (High Energy Explosives) sub-division of the factory in Jawahar Nagar. The blast completely destroyed the structure, with 13 workers inside at the time.
The committee will start its work on Monday (January 27, 2025) to uncover the cause of the incident. The Ordnance Factory Bhandara, in a statement issued late on Friday, confirmed that it has also set up its own internal investigation team to probe the tragedy.
The powerful blast, which caused extensive damage, has raised serious concerns over safety measures at the facility. Authorities are under pressure to determine the cause and implement measures to prevent future accidents.
