A man from the northeastern Ontario town of Cochrane has been found guilty of building a floating residence on Crown Land.
In a news release, the Ministry of Natural Resources says it found the illegal accommodation on the Abitibi River last October, while on a marine patrol.
An Ontario court later heard that it belonged to Pierre Robin, from Cochrane, and that the structure had been at the location for three years, including over the winter months where it would freeze in place.
The ministry says this is against the Public Lands Act, and the owner was fined $1,500 for the offence.

Sarnia City Council will hold a special meeting Tuesday morning to respond to social media comments made by Coun. Bill Dennis, who criticized city spending on a new mural by Indigenous artist Kennady Osborne as “virtue signalling by woke politicians” — then made a series of comments in response to a reply from Aamjiwnaang Chief Janelle Nahmabin that some have characterized as unprofessional and aggressive.
