CNN Data Chief Reveals Why Establishment Dems Should Be 'Running Scared' After Mamdani Win

Harry Enten flagged a "warning sign" for the party after the democratic socialist's upset victory in the New York City mayoral primary.
CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten on Wednesday warned Democrats of the seismic nature of Zohran Mamdani’s win in the New York City Democratic mayoral primary, a victory fueled by progressive policies and a grassroots campaign approach over a billionaire-backed bid from ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
“This was a political earthquake that should have the Democratic establishment running scared,” Enten said of Mamdani, whose win exposed divisions in the Democratic Party as several top Democrats in the state stopped short of endorsing him.
Enten, who called Mamdani’s victory “truly one for the record books” and likened it to other primary upsets in the city’s history, noted that “pretty much all” of the Democratic Party leaders were behind Cuomo.
“But the bottom line is the Democratic base is fed up, done with the Democratic establishment. This is true in New York. It’s true nationally,” Enten emphasized.
He turned to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll showing that 62% of Democrats think their party leaders should be replaced (24% of those indicated that they shouldn’t be replaced).
