A candle march was taken out in Hyderabad on Wednesday condemning Harsha’s murder in Shivamogga. An altercation took place between some of them and two youngsters from another community. Police quickly intervened and controlled the situation.

Another incident of a communal clash was reported in Hyderabad on Wednesday, February 23. However, Hyderabad police intervened swiftly and brought the situation under control, before it could escalate.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), on Wednesday evening, at around 9 pm, a few youths from Shivaji Nagar took out a candlelight rally condemning the murder of Harsha, the 23-year-old Bajrang Dal activist, who was killed in Karnataka’s Shivmogga.

At NM Guda circle, the marchers had an altercation with two bike-borne youths of another community and a scuffle took place. Learning about the incident, Cyberabad police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

On Wednesday, youngsters, claiming to be Gau Rakshaks in Hyderabad, were attacked by unidentified members when they stopped a van for alleged illegal transport of cows. The youths took shelter in a temple, and soon, BJP members gathered outside the temple to protest against the attack.

With regards to the scuffle during the candlelight march, DCP Jagdisgwar Reddy said that cases have been registered against both the groups and the investigation is on. Police on patrol were also deployed to different parts of the city to prevent any further incidents. The DCP added that peace had been restored to the area.

He asked all organisations in the city to inform the police if they were planning to take out a rally or a protest so that police protection could also be provided.
