'Bureaucratic narrow-mindedness': Madras HC slams officials for cancelling woman's SC certificate on displaying Cross

The court said that even if she attended church with her husband, it did not mean that she had abandoned her original faith.
The first bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice M Duraiswamy of the Madras High Court, criticising Ramanathapuram district officials for cancelling a Dalit women's SC community certificate, said a Holy Cross and other religious symbols and practices displayed by a Dalit cannot be cited as a reason to revoke their SC community certification. The court also called the move by officials a "bureaucratic narrow-mindedness that the Constitution never foresaw".
