Brisbane Heat part ways with Chris Lynn after 11 BBL seasons

Chris Lynn joined the Brisbane Heat back in 2011 and is currently the all-time leading run-scorer in the Big Bash League with 3005 runs at an average of 34.54.

Big Bash League (BBL) club Brisbane Heat, on Wednesday, May 11, decided to cut ties with Chris Lynn ahead of the 2022-23 edition of the T20 league. Heat and Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson said that the franchise had to take the tough call of not giving Lynn a contract for the upcoming season.

Back in 2011, Lynn joined the Heat and went on to play 11 seasons for them. With 3005 runs under his belt from 102 matches, the right-hander is not only the all-time leading run-scorer in the history of the tournament, but also the only batter to have crossed the 3000-run mark in the BBL.

The 32-year-old also has the most number of sixes (180) and half-centuries (24) in the championship. The Heat CEO lauded Lynn for his superlative journey and motivating youngsters to take up the sport.

"It's not a decision that has come easily to the Heat by any means. Chris Lynn and his feats have made an indelible impression on the club, and his efforts over more than a decade can rightly be said to have had an enormously positive effect on cricket,” Svenson was quoted as saying.

"We should gratefully acknowledge the influence he has had on a generation of kids who have grown up thrilled by his batting exploits. His appearance in a teal jumper each year would no doubt be linked by many households to the onset of their holidays, with the BBL being such an integral part of summer holidays," he stated.

"The Heat wish him nothing but the best for the future as he transitions into another phase of his career and thank him wholeheartedly for his commitment to the game in Queensland," Svenson added.

Ahead of the 2021-22 season, Lynn stepped down as the skipper of the team, after which wicketkeeper Jimmy Pierson took over the responsibility. The Heat are yet to win the BBL since the 2012-13 season and finished seventh last time around.
