Air-conditioning and commercial refrigeration major Blue Star has doubled the production capacity of deep freezers in Thane district of Wada in Maharashtra with the unveiling of a new facility, said MD B. Thiagarajan.
“We have doubled the production capacity of deep freezers to 2 lakh per annum and the commercial run of the expanded unit will commence by April 30,” he said.
The company had shifted its storage water cooler manufacturing facility from Himachal Pradesh to Wada. Blue Star will use the space in Himachal to enhance production of air conditioners, Mr. Thiagarajan said.
The new facility at Wada is Blue Star’s fifth unit and had been constructed at a cost of ₹130 crore. It was fully equipped with the latest advanced manufacturing systems and had global best practices in its operations, the MD said.
Informing that the company’s sixth unit at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh would become operational by October 2022, he said the facility would manufacture room air-conditioners and components. He added that the company might require another facility by 2025, which would likely come up either at Sri City or in the North.
“As refrigeration is the key to preserving and arresting wastage of perishables, the adoption of refrigeration in India is garnering significant thrust, and this is expected to increase on the back of rising consumption of perishables in general, and food and medicines, in particular. This is further expected to increase the demand for refrigeration products and we are very well poised to tap these,” he said.
Blue Star has been offering a wide spectrum of commercial refrigeration products and cold chain equipment catering to various segments such as pharmaceutical and healthcare, agriculture, dairy, and processed foods among others.
