
BJP lashes out at TN govt over hike in power tariff, says ‘You torment people to live a luxurious life’

The Tamil Nadu government announced a hike in the power tariff and proposed an increase of Rs 27.50 (per month) for those using up to 200 units.
Criticising the Tamil Nadu government for increasing the power tariff, the opposition accused the state electricity minister of tormenting people to live a luxurious life.
Taking to Twitter, state BJP president, K Annamalai, tweeted, “Give various reasons, EB minister has increased tariff for every consumer. EB Ministry is under the clutches of corruption to make a few rich. You torment people to live a luxurious life?”

On Monday, the Tamil Nadu government announced a hike in the power tariff for TANGEDCO consumers, proposing an increase of Rs 27.50 (per month) for those using up to 200 units. The state government has also hiked the power tariff by 65 paise per unit for railways and educational institutions.
There will be no change in electricity charges for 42 per cent of households.
