Bengaluru, India’s Silicon Valley, battered by Covid-19 fury

Bengaluru is emerging as the new epicentre in the south, with data indicating that the city has recorded an average of 22,000 new cases and more than 100 deaths every day over the last week.

Record active Covid-19 cases and record daily deaths for a city with such a population size. In terms of transmission, Bengaluru is in the midst of a virus storm no other Indian major urban centre is in. The tech capital’s caseload of 313,314 is nearly three times that of Pune's 114,254. The pandemic is running amok in Bengaluru, home to more than 12 million people.
