Arvind Bellad suggests allowing vehicles on HD-BRTS corridor for a fee, sparking controversy and opposition from SUCI.
Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Arvind Bellad has suggested that the HD-BRTS (Hubballi-Dharwad-Bus Rapid Transit System) officials allow other vehicles on the bus corridor by collecting a fee.
Speaking to media persons in Dharwad on Monday, he stated that BRTS should permit other buses on its route and allow two-wheelers and cars for a fee. This will reduce congestion on adjacent routes, while generating revenue for BRTS, he said.
He said that he will welcome the proposal to implement a light rail transport system to help improve connectivity between the twin cities.
Mr. Bellad said that the construction of an indoor sports complex near the city’s central library swimming pool complex is in its final stages and the complex will be inaugurated during the coming summer.
Emphasising the need for more police stations in Dharwad, he said that the Home Minister will be requested to sanction two more police stations for the city.
Condemning the statement by a Dalit leader in Vijayapura offering a reward for cutting off Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s tongue for his remarks Ambedkar, Mr. Bellad urged the State government to take immediate action against the leader in Vijayapura.
Meanwhile, the Dharwad district unit of Socialist Unity Centre of India-C (SUCI-Communist) has strongly opposed Mr. Bellad’s statement on his suggestion for imposing toll on vehicles using the BRTS corridor between Hubballi and Dharwad.
