Belagavi Police file case against individuals for spreading fake news about RSS activists, seeking extradition if accused in Canada.
The Belagavi Police have registered a suo motu case against holders of three X accounts for posting and circulating fake news on social media platform about RSS activists ransacking the residence of Colonel Sofia Qureshi’s father-in-law at Konnur in Gokak taluk of Belagavi district.
A case has been filed against accused Anees Uddin, Khubaani and Drrummii in the District CEN Police Station.
Belagavi Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled told presspersons that the accused Anees Uddin used Colonel Sofia Qureshi’s name and posted on his X account that RSS activists had ransacked her in-law’s house and the post was shared by the two others.
A suo motu case on causing hostility among two communities and instigating riots was registered on Thursday, he said.
He said that the post on X has now been deleted and they have sought details about the accused from the office of X.
“If the accused is in India, we will take him into custody. And, if the accused is residing in Canada, then we will seek assistance from the Centre to take diplomatic measures for his extradition,” he said.
