More than 520,000 people in 2021 got some type of buttock augmentation, including the BBL or Brazilian butt lift, yet the procedure has the highest mortality rate of any aesthetic surgery.
That’s an astounding 40.5% increase over 2017, according to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. The end result is a rounder, fuller, perkier butt. Yet the BBL — a procedure that involves harvesting fat from other areas of the body and injecting it into the buttocks — has been shown to have the highest mortality rate of any other aesthetic surgery procedure.
