Nayeem Hasan picked up a six-wicket haul in the first innings of the opening Test against Sri Lanka at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
Bangladesh off-spinner Nayeem Hasan has been ruled out of the second Test against Sri Lanka due to a finger injury. The Young Turk sustained the injury during the drawn opening Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
Debashish Chowdhury, the Bangladesh cricket team's chief physician, also said that there are doubts over Nayeem’s participation in the two-match Test series in the West Indies as he needs three to four weeks to recover.
"Nayeem is certainly ruled out from the second Test against Sri Lanka as he fractured his finger. He will need at least three to four weeks to recover and taking that into consideration it looks he is unlikely to make in the West Indies Test squad," Chowdhury was quoted as saying.
The 21-year-old Nayeem played a critical role in the first Test after he picked up a six-wicket haul in Sri Lanka’s first innings. Nayeem is also more than a handy batter, although he couldn’t do anything significant in Chattogram.
Earlier, all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz missed the first Test because of a finger injury. Chowdhury kept his fingers crossed regarding Mehidy’s participation in the Tests in the Caribbean.
"We have opened his plaster three to four days back and now he is having his physiotherapy, and we are hoping and confident that he will be available during the West Indies tour," he added.
If both Nayeem and Mehidy don’t play the second Test, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat may get an opportunity. Apart from Nayeem, fast bowler Shoriful Islam has also been ruled out due to a wrist injury. In the southpaw’s absence, either Shohidul Islam or Rejaur Rahman Raja may get an opportunity.
