Angelo Mathews failed to get his second Test double century during the match against Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
Sri Lanka batter Angelo Mathews became the second batter from his country to get out on 199 in Test cricket. The veteran failed to get to his second Test double century in the opening Test against Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. After electing to bat first, the visitors scored 397 on the back of Mathews’ 199-run knock, laced with 16 fours and three sixes.
After scoring a century on day one of the ongoing Test, the 34-year-old Mathews carried on the good work and looked good to score a double century. But off-spinner Nayeem Hasan, who picked up a six-wicket haul, got rid of the right-handed batter. Mathews tried to dance down the track and hit Nayeem through the leg-side, but holed out to Shakib Al Hasan at square leg.
Mathews also joined Indian batter KL Rahul in the 199-run club. Back in 2016, Rahul scored 199 against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Rahul got out to leg-spinner Adil Rashid, but India went on to win the match at Chepauk by an innings and 75 runs.
Former Pakistan batter Younis Khan, who is the only batter from his country to score over 10,000 Test runs, scored 199 against India back in 2006 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The likes of Faf du Plessis, Steve Smith, Steve Waugh and Mohammad Azharuddin also feature in the list.
