Bangladesh set to play tri-series in New Zealand in lead up to T20 World Cup

Jalal Yunus, the BCB cricket operations chairman, confirmed the same and said that the series will take place in Christchurch with Pakistan most likely to be the third team.

Bangladesh are set to play a T20I tri-series in New Zealand later this year as a part of their preparations for the T20 World Cup in Australia. Jalal Yunus, the BCB cricket operations chairman, confirmed the same and said that the series will take place in Christchurch with Pakistan most likely to be the third team.

Prior to the matches, the Tigers are also scheduled to play T20 games against local sides during their camp in Adelaide. The dates for the tri-series is likely to be between late September and early October, although an official announcement is yet to come.

Bangladesh will also lock horns with West Indies and Zimbabwe in addition to taking part in the Asia Cup, which will also be played in the T20 format.

"We will play more than 16 T20 matches [before the T20 World Cup]. We will not need a separate camp, since this is itself a lot of preparation. We will be holding a camp in Adelaide for a week, before heading to New Zealand to play the tri-nation tournament," Yunus was quoted as saying at a press conference.

The BCB are also in talks with veteran batter Tamim Iqbal regarding his future in the T20 format. Back in January, the southpaw said that he shouldn’t be considered for selection in T20Is for six months. Tamim also pulled out from the T20 World Cup last year in the UAE.

"Tamim is one of the most senior players. We have held a series of meetings with him, and he understands his position very well. You will probably hear about it from him when the six months are over. We want him to play, and we are trying [to convince him]. We will definitely respect his decision since he has to consider his future as a cricketer," he added.
