Ballari Mayor urges women to get screened for cervical cancer at free health check-up camp, stressing importance of early diagnosis.
Expressing concerns over the increasing cases of cervical cancer among women, Ballari Mayor Mullangi Nandish called upon women to frequently get screened for the disease.
He was speaking at the free health check-up camp organised for women civic workers at the Football Stadium in Ballari on March 25, 2025. Ballari City Corporation, in association with BioCipher Labs, Sanjeevini Hospital, Nava Karnataka Nursing Home and Siri Diagnostic Lab, organised the camp.
“The health check-up camp is organised for our women pourakarmikas. Registration, consultation and all other services are completely free in the camp. The women, especially those from economically weaker sections, should make use of such camps where experienced medical professionals can screen them. Cases of cervical cancer are seeing an alarming increase these days. Women should not ignore it. I appeal to them to get frequently screened for it. Early diagnosis could lead to better handling,” he said.
Resource person Dr. Shankar gave examples from his own experience to stress that cervical cancer and breast cancer could lead to death.
“Women between the ages of 10 and 45 years must undergo screening for these diseases. If the disease is diagnosed in the early stages, it can be cured. The Union Government has allocated special grants for the treatment of cervical and breast cancers and women should make use of it,” he said.
Deputy Mayor D. Sukum, Social, City Corporation’s Health and Education Standing Committee Chairperson M.K. Padmaroja, Probationary Health Officer Munaf Patel, doctors Sameer and Gangadhar and senior officers of city corporation were present.
