Autumn Durald Arkapaw just made Oscars history.
The director of photography for Ryan Coogler's Box Office smash "Sinners" became the first woman to win the Academy Award for best cinematography at the ceremony on Sunday, March 15. Upon her win, Arkapaw, 46, thanked Coogler for his vision, saying in her speech: "Thank you for believing in me and thank you for trusting me, and that’s the kind of guy I get to make films with."
The film, a powerful meditation on Black music, cultural appropriation and the difficult bargains of history, is already having a big night, taking home several awards already. Michael B. Jordan, the movie's star who portrays the identical brothers Smoke and Stack onscreen, nabbed an Oscar for best actor, one of the biggest trophies of the night.

The filmmaker, who also worked with Coogler on "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," also asked that all the women in the theater stand up during her speech, thanking them for their support and honoring all the other female trailblazers who made her work possible.
