Tiruppur city police install auditory signals at key intersections to enhance pedestrian safety and prevent accidents.
As part of the efforts to reduce road accidents involving pedestrians, the Tiruppur city police installed auditory signals, which provide voice instructions, at key intersections.
These signals, originally designed to assist visually impaired persons, have now been expanded for general public use in Tiruppur.
Pilot installations had earlier been put in place at Pushpa Junction and Thirumuruganpoondi Junction, where trial operations were conducted recently. Following positive feedback, the subsequent phase covered high-footfall areas including the District Collectorate junction and the Government Medical College Hospital junction.
Police officials said that installations were also completed at Gopal Mill, Ammapalayam, and Periyar Colony, These locations were identified as high-traffic pedestrian zones.
The auditory signals operate by issuing voice instructions that guide pedestrians to cross only when it is safe to do so. The system is aimed at preventing accidents, especially those involving senior citizens.
Further, to address recurring accidents on the Mangalam-Avinashi stretch, the police have installed medians at five critical points along the road.
Officials noted that the pilot signals were well-received by the public, and the city-wide implementation was expected to enhance overall pedestrian safety.
