
At 941, child sex ratio goes up by 70 points in Pune: Survey

The survey revealed that in the rural parts of the district, there are 941 girls for every 1,000 boys in the age group of 0 to 6 years. With this, the number has increased from 871 in the 2011 Census to 941 in 2022, recording a jump of 70 points.
Indicating a demographic shift, the child sex ratio has improved drastically in the last decade in the Pune district, according to the latest survey conducted by the Pune Zilla Parishad.
The survey revealed that in the rural parts of the district, there are 941 girls for every 1,000 boys in the age group of 0 to 6 years.
With this, the number has increased from 871 in the 2011 Census to 941 in 2022, recording a jump of 70 points.
According to a report published in the Times of India (TOI), Aayush Prasad, CEO, Pune Zilla Parishad said, "Currently, we have 941 girls for every 1,000 boys in rural Pune. We have calculated this sex ratio by carrying out a census of children below six years of age under the Pune Zilla Parishad's child health screening programme.”
“The improved sex ratio is a collective outcome of the successive administrations in Pune district over the last ten years. I compliment the people of Pune for bringing about this social change", she added.
As per HT reports, the latest survey was collected from 1,376 gram panchayats covering children even in temporary shelters and orphanages in Pune district.
In the age group of 0 to 6 years, there are 285,175 children out of which 1,46,909 are boys and 1,38,265 are girls, said the officials.
