Assam floods: Condition improves, 2.28 lakh still affected

The flood situation in Assam improved on Thursday, but over 2.28 lakh people still remain affected by the deluge.
The flood situation in Assam improved substantially on Thursday, although over 2.28 lakh people are still suffering across six districts of the state, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) stated in its daily report.
With no new reports of fatalities, the total number of people killed in the state's floods this year stands at 193, including 19 in landslides.
At least 175 villages and 527 hectares of agricultural fields are submerged by the flood waters, the ASDMA report stated.
As per the ASDMA, over 2.28 lakh people remained affected in the state’s Cachar, Chirang, Dima Hasao, Golaghat, Morigaon and Tamulpur districts.
The report further stated that Cachar is the worst hit district with over 1.34 lakh people affected, followed by Morigaon with 92,853 and 1,052 in Tamulpur district.
"Cachar, Chirang, Dima Hasao, Morigaon and Tamulpur district authorities are running 59 relief camps where 15,705 people, including 2,636 children, are taking shelter," the report added.
Floodwaters have damaged houses, roads, and other infrastructure in Darrang, Morigaon, Dibrugarh, Karimganj, Karbi Anglong, Karbi Anglong West, Tamulpur, and Udalguri districts, the daily flood report stated.
