Asia Cup 2022: Shakib Al Hasan concerned about death bowling after Bangladesh crash out – It cost us the game

Asia Cup 2022: Match 5, Bangladesh lost to Sri Lanka by two wickets in Dubai and crashed out of the multi-nation tournament in the UAE.

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan said that Bangladesh need to improve their death bowling to a large extent to perform consistently in T20Is. On Thursday, September 1, the Tigers bowed out of Asia Cup 2022 after losing to Sri Lanka by two wickets in their second Group B match at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

The match went right down to the wire as Sri Lanka needed 8 runs to win off the last ball. However, Asitha Fernando held his nerve to take the Islanders home. A no-ball from Mahedi Hasan also helped Sri Lanka’s cause in the humdinger.

The Magura-born Shakib didn’t mince words in saying that the Tigers need to improve a whole lot before the T20 World Cup later this year in Australia.

“Death bowling is something we are looking to improve and that has cost us the game, The last two overs they were eight down and needed to get 17-18 runs and they got with a lot of balls to spare. We are not bowling well in the death,” Shakib was quoted as saying after the match.

“We should give lot of credit to SL, the way they held their nerves. We wanted to pick wickets, and saw the fast bowlers were picking wickets. There was pressure on SL. Whenever the bowlers bowl, they needed to execute their plans.

“If you look at the last six months, we were not competitive but we were very competitive this time. We need to work in a lot of areas before the World Cup in Australia,” he added.
