As polls open across Calgary, here's what you need to know to vote in the municipal election
CBC
Voters head to the polls today to select Calgary's new mayor and city council.
Polls will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. MT in Calgary on Monday, and as long as you're in line before that time you'll be able to cast your ballot. Unofficial results will begin to be reported online once polls close.
Whatever happens at the polls, this election will result in many new faces around the council chambers — and those new faces will have a say in the city's future, from the services and infrastructure we use to how we pay for it.
Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi is not running for re-election; one of 27 mayoral hopefuls will take his place. Nine of 14 current councillors are also not running for re-election (three of those departing are seeking the mayor's seat) and 100 people are vying to fill their seats.
You can vote in the municipal election if you're at least 18 years old, you're a Canadian citizen, and you're a resident of Calgary.
You'll have to vote at your assigned voting station. You can look up your poll either using your voter information card or by using Elections Calgary's online voting station search tool — you just have to type in your home address.
In order to vote you'll need to bring ID that contains your name and current address. That could be anything from a driver's licence to a utility bill to a statement of government benefits, as long as it shows your name and current address (picture ID is not required). You can also have someone vouch for you or provide a letter of attestation.
