Apprehension of Punjab, West Bengal ill-founded: Govt to Lok Sabha on BSF jurisdiction extension

In a written response to Lok Sabha on Tuesday, the Centre said that the apprehension of the governments of West Bengal and Punjab over extension of BSF jurisdiction in certain states were “ill-founded”.

The Centre on Tuesday said the apprehension of governments of West Bengal and Punjab over a notification extending the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF) in certain states were "ill-founded".

The government’s reply was in response to questions raised by three MPs-- Ravneet Singh Bittu, Sougata Roy and Deepak Baij. The MPs had sought a reply on whether the increase in jurisdiction of the BSF could lead to tension between the state police and BSF.
